Broom Series 2008 – Rules

 

All standard fishery rules as displayed at the fishery apply to this competition.

 

Fishing will commence and cease upon the signal given by the match organiser.

 

Each competitor may use only one line and one hook at any one time. Barbless hooks only.

 

No ground baiting or feeding until commencement of fishing.

 

No fishing allowed without the use of an acceptable bite indicator, i.e. float or marked tip.

 

You cannot fish with one set-up whilst feeding with another set-up, you can however feed by hand or catapult whilst fishing.

 

Swim limits:

All waters: Lateral limit is no more than 16m or the mid way point between two occupied pegs, whichever is the shorter distance.

 

Additional water specific limits:

Queensberry: No fishing past the mid way point at 90 degrees to the bank

Bruce’s Acre: No fishing in any direction greater than 16m.

The Square: Fishing the island margins is only allowed if it does not encroach on another anglers swim.

 

Keep nets and landing nets must be used. 2 keep nets must be used of the fish friendly type and must be dipped before commencement. One keep net is to be used for fish weighing less than approx 1lb, and the other to be used for larger fish, irrespective of species.

 

Any competitor leaving his peg for whatever reason must withdraw his line from the water or he will be disqualified.

 

If a competitor is playing a fish when all out is called, an additional 10 minutes is allowed to land that fish.

 

All competitors must ensure their peg is litter free at the match end to qualify for weigh in. Peg area must be cleared of all obstructions prior to weighing to facilitate an efficient/safe weigh in and fish return process. The angler must be present at the weigh in of his/her own catch.

 

The weigh in will be carried out by the match organisers or persons appointed by the match organisers.

 

Netted fish will be removed from the water and returned to the water by the weigh in official.

 

The match organisers reserve the right to refuse entry to a match of any angler.

 

The weigh in official will be the sole judge of the scale weight reading.

Any competitor breaking any of these match rules or fishery rules may be disqualified from the match or series.

 

Any objections/complaints must be lodged with the match organisers before the end of the weigh in. In the event of any objections or complaints being lodged, the match organisers’ decision will be final.

 

These rules and the competition format may be subject to change at any time by the organisers.

Broom Series 2008 – Competition Format

 

Match dates:

13th April – 11th May – 1st June – 22nd June – 13th July – 10th August – 31st August (Finals)

 

Peg draw at 9.15am; Commence fishing at 11.00am; Stop fishing at 4:00pm

 

Before the commencement of the series each angler will receive notification of the waters he/she will be fishing throughout the six qualifying matches of the series. This will enable each angler to prepare and practice meaningfully for every match.

 

Points for each section will be awarded as follows. 10 pts for 1st - down to 4pts for 7th. All other competitors weighing in fish will receive 2pts.

 

Each angler’s best five results from the six qualifying matches will count towards the final. Your points total will dictate the section you fish in the final match.

 

Golden Peg : One occupied peg will be drawn at the end of the match draw. If you win the overall match from this peg you win the golden peg fund. If the golden peg fund is not won, the fund rolls over onto the next match. If the golden peg fund is not won on the finals day, all occupied peg numbers on the finals day will be entered into a draw at the end of the match, and the competitor occupying the peg of the drawn number will receive the golden peg fund.

 

Finals Day Format:

 

In the event of a tie in any finals day competition, the winner will be decided by the total number of points scored during any five of the six qualifying matches.

 

The 20 anglers with the most points accumulated during any five of the six qualifying matches will be eligible to fish in the “A” final

 

The remaining anglers who have scored points in at least five qualifying matches will be eligible to fish in the “B” final.

 

Any anglers who have not scored points in at least five qualifying matches will be eligible to fish in the “C” final.

 

Prize Structure:

 

There will be a guaranteed £1,000 cash prize for the winner of the “A” final

 

There will be a guaranteed £500 cash prize for the angler who obtains most accumulated points from any five of the six qualifying matches.

 

There will be additional prizes, which may be cash and/or goods (subject to sponsorship by third parties) for 2nd, 3rd, and 4th places in the “A” final; 1st and 2nd places in the “B” final; and 1st & 2nd places in the “C” final.

 

There will be cash prizes for first and second places in each section in each of the six qualifying matches.

 

Competition Fees:

A registration fee of £60 per angler is payable on application.

A match fee of £10 per match is payable by each angler at the peg draw.

All fees are non-refundable.
