Coarse Fishing in Scotland - Queensberry Loch at Broom Fisheries
Fish for common carp, f1 carp, barbel, mirror carp, roach, chub, perch and gudgeon at Queensberry water

Quensberry Loch is one of the oldest waters at Broom Fisheries, Annan. It was used as a fishing water during the last century for the workers at the Broom munitions factory. It was named Queensberry to mark the area's close ties with the family of the Marquess of Queensberry, made famous through his sponsorship of the rules of boxing.

This coarse fishing water has 28 pegs to fish from and is home to the following species of fish:

  • F1 Carp - These fish are especially bred to feed all year round so carp fishing is now available in the winter too.
  • Common Carp - These have an even, regular scale pattern, and often grow into double figures.
  • Mirror Carp - Biologically like common carp, but they have irregular scale patterns which can make them unique.
  • Barbel - Fishing for barbel is great fun, and catching your first Broom barbel will be a memorable experience.
  • Roach - Beautiful silver fish - takes a wide range of bait. The roach is extremely popular with UK anglers.
  • Perch - Handsome striped fish with bright orange/red pelvic fins. Here we have some over 3lbs in weight.
  • Chub - A very shiny fish with an incredibly large mouth.
  • Gudgeon - This small and attractive fish is quite rare in Scotland, so we are proud of their ability to survive here.
Queensberry loch has some deep marginal growth, which helps create an excellent opportunity to catch fish close to your peg. It is very popular with experienced match anglers, whilst also being ideal for beginners. Many a youngster has caught their first fish here with nothing more than a whip. The loch is around 6 feet deep, reducing to 3 feet in the shallows. Carp are attracted by any one of the ground baits we sell, and we suggest pelletised hook baits to clinch the catch. Barbel too will take a pellet on the hook, as well as meat bait or worm. Maggots from our live bait store are good for enticing the silver fish into your swim.
